Scholarship Scheme for children of clients
In 2006, LAPO won the Grameen Foundation’s Award for Excellence in Microfinance which came with a cash prize of $10,000. The amount was utilized as a seed fund for a scholarship scheme for children of LAPO clients. The scholarship award covers school fees and books for three years of junior and senior secondary school each. LAPO Microfinance Bank makes contributions to the scholarship. Currently, 229 children have so far benefited from the scholarship scheme.

Some Beneficiaries
Faith HACKEM
Miss Faith is a student of Junior Secondary School 2 at the Model College Ikorodu. With the LAPO Scholarship award, Faith pays her school fees for the year at the beginning of the school year. Her grandmother, Mrs. Remi Oguniyi is a long standing client of LAPO. She expressed her joy amidst tears “Where LAPO for help me too big…thank you LAPO”.
Miss Olasinle AJOSE
Miss Olasinle is a beneficiary of the LAPO Scholarship Scheme. She desires to become a lawyer. The scholarship award enables her family to promptly pay her school fees and also provide her with clean uniforms, shoes, bag and all required books. Mrs. Toyin Ajose (Olasinle’s mother) said she used part of the scholarship fund to enroll Olasinle for computer training during end of session (summer) holiday. Mrs. Toyin Ajose is a LAPO client in Alafia Union and in her 3rd loan cycle stage. The Principal of Olasinle’s school, Mrs. Alakia was of the opinion that ‘Olasinle has greatly improved; she is more stable in school’. Before now, Olasinle was always sent home by the school authorities for delay in payment of school fees’.
Miss Afusat YUSSUF
Miss Afusat is a JSS 2 student preparing for her Junior School Certificate comes the next academic session. She is the daughter of Mrs. Adeola Yussuf a trader who has been solely responsible for the education of her daughter. It was a blessed opportunity when her child qualified for the LAPO Scholarship. For a better performance, Afusat now have all it takes to be in school such as good uniform, stationeries, after-school coaching with the service of a private tutor and delays in paying school fees is now a thing of the past. Mr. Olushola, her school principal confirmed that her academic performance has greatly improved. Her mother expressed thanks to LAPO as the fund did not only take care of Afusat’s education alone, the excess extended to supplement that of her two other sons.
