LAPO Microfinance Bank supports activities which add value to the lives of low-income people and their children. These activities include the following:
Secondary School Quiz Competition
The annual quiz competition for public and private secondary (High) schools in Edo state was initiated in 2006 for mental development of the youths. It is organized in collaboration with the Edo state Ministry of Education. Prizes include a TROPHY, books, computer systems and science laboratory equipment.
Legal Aid services
LAPO Microfinance Bank supports the legal programme of LAPO NGO. Low-income women particularly our clients are given free legal services to address acts of injustice against them. Common areas of support include denial of inheritance rights and intimidation.
Scholarship Scheme for children of clients
In 2006, LAPO won the Grameen Foundation’s Award for Excellence in Microfinance which came with a cash prize of $10,000. The amount was utilized as a seed fund for a scholarship scheme for children of LAPO clients. The scholarship award covers school fees and books for three years of junior and senior secondary school each. LAPO Microfinance Bank makes contributions to the scholarship. Currently, 197 children are the scholarship scheme beneficiaries.
