Mount Carmel Secondary School, Ekpoma has emerged winner of the 2010 edition of Annual LAPO Quiz Competition. The school clinched the coveted trophy after defeating 37 other schools drawn from across the three senatorial districts of Edo State.

The grand finale of the LAPO Quiz Competition was held in Springfield High School, Benin City, in collaboration with the Edo State Ministry of Education.

According to the Coordinator of the competition, Tessa Anota, Mount Carmel Secondary School is the first in the whole of Edo Central Senatorial District to lift the quiz trophy since the inception of the competition five years ago. She said a total of 38 schools drawn from the three senatorial districts of the state participated in the Quiz competition adding that 10 schools; four from Edo South, three from Edo North and three from Edo Central Senatorial districts scaled through the first leg of the competition into the second leg of the competition.

At the grand finale, Mount Carmel Secondary School beat Presentation National High School and UNIBEN Demonstration Secondary School to the second and third place positions respectively to emerge overall winner in the tension-soaked and exciting competition.

They were rewarded with valuable gifts and the prestigious LAPO trophy. As the overall winner, Mount Carmel Secondary School went home with the coveted LAPO Quiz Trophy with 12 sets of modern classroom desks and other educational materials while Presentation National High School and UNIBEN Demonstration Secondary School went home respectively with 10 and eight sets of modern classroom desks with other LAPO materials.

Speaking, the Executive Director of Lift Above Poverty Organization (LAPO), Mr. Godwin Ehigiamusoe said the quiz competition is a corporate social responsibility programme of the organization aimed at developing and encouraging excellence amongst secondary school students who are the future leaders of the nation.
